July 7 - to Spearfish Canyon and Dances with Wolves winter shot

Driving through Spearfish Canyon.  It is the most beautiful scenery that I can recall.  Streams are everywhere.  I took a lot of pictures shown below, but again, the pictures do not equate to the majestic views when seeing it in person.

Really good picture of Myron and Karen at the Bridal Veil Falls

We stopped  and ate at this quaint Restaurant.  The food was delicious and it had a great view

Again, I loved the movie "Dances with Wolves" so had to go see the place where the winter scene, which was at the end of the movie, was shot.

Below, is where the Sioux Indian who became a close friend with Lt. Dunbar (Kevin Costner), sat on his horse at the top of this mountain on the left hand side. I can't remember the words he was shouting as Lt Dunbar and Stands with Fist were riding off, but had to do with their friendship.  It was filmed in the winter time and was the last scene of the movie.

Further on down the road, this area had several small waterfalls, bridges, and picnic areas.  The water was crystal clear and cold.  Could go often if lived here, for picnics or just to relax.  It was so peaceful with the water streams/falls.  They had hide-a-way picnic areas that are perfect to spend family days with the kids/grandkids.

See the fish?

And then we ended up in Lead, SD where the gold rush started here in SD.  They had just opened this center the Tuesday before we got here.

Below was an elevator that took workers and supplies into the mines.

This was a picture of what it looked like going up  the shaft

What the mining shafts looked like.  The bottom one was 8,333 feet below the surface.

In more recent years, they excavated the entire mine area so this is what the mine area looks like today.

A wagon train of people coming to the area to mine for Gold.

Hard to see but this was what the mine shafts ultimately looked like.  I would have gotten lost forever in there.  haha.
